Margot Malpote, born in 1990 in Strasbourg, France, currently lives and works between Göteborg and Paris. She is a visual artist and researcher using color as a method. Grief is an ongoing research interest, wether through the lens of climate change or emotional heritage.

SKY SERIES

Biomimicry of sky colors documented in Iceland and translated in natural dyed costume on dead-stock silk. Costumes were activated in the landscape through butoh dance movements and documented by photography and video. Part of collective exhibitions at SIM residency and Textilmidstod residency.

The theme discussed is intimacy of grief, transformed by sitting in the darkness of winter in the North Pole, documenting sun rise and sunset colors. It becomes a healing colour palette research.

Gare-robe sensible discusses future of fashion in the context of climate emergency. How toxic are colors in fashion? How toxic is fashion? Does fashion have boundaries? What does weather say about fashion? What does fashion say about climate change? This work questions fashion’s relationship to environment and environmental anxieties through a performative method. It is a body-dress-space exploration looking for embodied alternative aesthetics for fashion for a more critical future.

This piece intertwines an in-situ crocheted garment and butoh dance public activation at the residency LABservatoire. It discusses transmission and resilience in the context of climate change through textile work using waste material inherited from grandmothers.

COLOR RESEARCH

Color research through natural dyes is an ongoing method, using plant and insects based dye materials.

LICHEN

Three of us (LENOAL) are investigating shape, function, life of lichen and are trying to express mycelium's being through collaborative drawings and textile pieces. Lichen becomes a metaphor to question power of friendship, resilience and infra-ordinary.
